Bison
still roam North Dakota
|
Did
you know that North Dakota farmers and ranchers annually produce
enough wheat for 108 billion sandwiches, enough barley for 42
billion cans of beer and enough potatoes for 2 billion servings
of french fries? You betcha'. So that goes to prove that it
doesn't snow all the time in this northern
Midwest state! In fact, locals say the amount of snow is one
of the biggest misconceptions about North Dakota. Sure, it can
get mighty cold in the winter, but the mild, sunny summer weather
just can't be beat. And one of North Dakota's favorite pastimes,
fishing, can be done anytime of the year.
Fargo,
located on the eastern edge of the state near Minnesota,
is the largest community in North Dakota. In fact, the
Fargo area is the largest metropolitan area between
Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. and Spokane, Wash. In the
past few years, several magazines have proclaimed the
city as one of the most stress-free metropolitan areas
in America - good news if you're heading there on business.
And
the spirit of the West is still alive in North Dakota, which
has 60 wildlife refuges, more than any other state. North Dakota
also hosts almost fifty local and regional rodeos that attract
hundreds of cowboys each year. An annual springtime event is
the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Medora, most definitely an event
you don't want to miss!
